Street

There is no agreed modus operandi for street photography. Pretty much anything goes. Actual streets are optional.

It’s easy to be conflicted about street photography. Some of the photographs here I would now place in a category I’d call ‘photographs I probably wouldn’t take now’. They seem intrusive. The process of making them too uncomfortably close to Susan Sontag’s description: ‘To photograph people is to violate them, by seeing them as they never see themselves, by having knowledge of them that they can never have; it turns people into objects that can be symbolically possessed.’ Once read, difficult to forget.
